The beautiful Fango Valley, also called Falasorma or Filosorma, is located in the Balagne region (on the way to Porto), a fertile area often called “the garden of Corsica”. The nearest town is a seaside village called Galéria and is a 45 minute drive from Calvi.
The valley is surrounded by majestic old oak forests with the breathtaking backdrop of the “Great Barrier”, the northern wall of the Paglia Orba massif. The Fango river has its source at the foot of Capu Tafunatu (2335m) and flows into the Gulf of Galéria. It is famous for its crystal clear waters forming natural pools ideal for swimming.
The most beautiful hike to do in the Fango valley is the one that starts from Ponte Vecchiu. To reach it, you just have to take the road 351 which goes up to Manso. After a few minutes of driving, you can’t miss this bridge on your left. There is a paying parking lot a few meters further on the right.
For this hike in the Fango valley, you just have to cross the bridge and take the path that leaves on the right just after the bridge. It is a path that goes along the Fango up to the hamlet of Tuarelli. It takes about 1 hour and a half to walk there, or 3 hours round trip.
This is a really beautiful hike where you will have great views of the Fango and its beautiful natural pools. At times, the path goes away from it to get closer again. In some places, the red porphyry rock gives the place a magical atmosphere, which only makes you want to rest, admire and bathe!
